Call for Applications: RaumArs Artist in Residence Programme (Rauma, Finland)

RaumArs welcomes artists to apply for a residence from the fields of applied arts (incl. design), architecture, handcraft (incl. textile), performing arts (incl. dance & theatre), music and visual arts (incl. photography & video). 

The participatory art applicants are expected to present a project plan for a collaborative art practize, public or social (community) art project or an environmental project, which will be realized during the residence. The main selection criteria will be the artists’ motivation to work in collaboration with local people, the proposal and the quality of previous art. Many of the projects are carried out with children or youth, but artists actualize the project according to their wishes and collaborate with any group. The applicant doesn't have to have previous teaching experience, but need to prove to be able to carry out the project. English will be the working language and should be spoken reasonably well. RaumArs can invite couples that can stay in a same apartment during the residence. Please see the apartment.

The residence may overlap with an individual artist also staying in the same flat. 

The applicants for indepentend residence are expected to present a project plan of their own work. 

  

A. Community/participatory residence 

For your application, you need:

  • Application form (download from our page). It should also include your preferred period of time as well what time isn’t suitable.
  • Clear & realistic project plan for a community/participatory or environmental art project. The aim of the letter should be describing the kind of project you imagine doing in Rauma, max 1 x A4. Please specify, whether you are planning to work on a new project or continue an old one. From independently working artists the description of their own field of art is expected. 
  • A short summary of an above mentioned plan.
  • Work plan for a possible personal art practice while in Rauma, max 1 x A4. Needed in particular form independently working artists. 
  • Artist statement, motivation and previous community art practice, all together max 1 x A4.
  • Curriculum vitae. In a group application CV from every artist.
  • Samples of your recent work, preferred format: PDF (or CD / DVD / photo / video / printed portfolios), max 5 minutes worth of video samples in total.
  • If you are using a normal air mail (smail mail!) include digital documentation of all parts of your application, especially the text parts as an application form, CV, project plan etc. 
  • Please compress images to 72 dpi, no more than 200 kt each, and no more than 8 pictures. 
  • PDF attachments shall occupy NO more than 1,5 Mb. 

Applications send by air mail will not be returned. Please, do not send any originals.

The selection will be made by the board of RaumArs with some members from collaborator organizations.

The names of the selected artists will be published on our website by the 30th of August. The selected artists will be also informed personally before the date. 

Please include in your application a descption of a group you wish to collaborate with and a budget within you plan to work. Artists get at most 200-300 euros in a month (exact amound to be desided later) for materials (incl. equipment rentals etc.) by proving receipts for the items bought or rented. Exceeding costs are to be paid by the artist(s). The accepted artists will have an opportunity to co-operate with local institutions or associations according to the proposal. 

RaumArs A-i-R collaborates with local schools, art institutions, museums, music and dance schools, different associations (also non-artistic and non-cultural) and festivals in Rauma and Satakunta area. Production manager assists with finding collaborative group or people for the project. There is no separate artists' house in Rauma, but some artists' studios.
