Call For Curatorial Proposals: The Impakt Festival 2018

BMF

Deadline: 17 December 2015

Impakt is calling for curatorial proposals for the 2018 Impakt Festival. The Impakt Festival is the annual culmination of Impakt’s activities as an organisation that focuses on critical media culture, in a five-day, multi-media festival with conferences, talks, performances, screenings, exhibitions and presentations. Founded in 1988, the Impakt Festival takes place every autumn in the city of Utrecht (NL), presenting fresh perspectives on media, arts and digital culture.

To topically explore the massive effects of changes in technology, society and the arts, Impakt annually identifies one year theme.

This Open Call is to develop such a year theme through a thematic Festival or Year Programme Proposal.

Curatorial proposals can be submitted by curators individually or collectively and should revolve around a main theme. Curators are invited to propose a new theme for a Festival Programme that deals with urgent questions and shifting paradigms in transglobal society, technology and the visual arts seen through media culture’s lens. The theme is both original in outline and in the suggested approach toward examinating it from a wide range of perspectives.

How to apply?
The proposal consists of three elements:

1) Outline of the theme
Your application should expand on the suggested topic and possible sub-themes. It outlines its relevance, your general approach to it and suggestions as to how it can be addressed in a festival exploring media culture, arts and technology. It should express why your theme is topical, in need of exploration, and how it may contribute to the current discourse in the media, popular culture, academia and the arts.

2) A Curatorial Proposal for Festival Programme
A Festival Programme Proposal lists at least three programme elements, disciplines and perspectives; so as to emphasise the theme’s relevance and range. Ideally, a Festival Programme Proposal contains suggestions for screenings, artist’s commissions, a conference and an exhibition, including preliminary listings of artists, speakers, collaborations with other organisations, et cetera, that you would like to include. Curators are encouraged to add new formats to the equation.

3) A recent, proper CV of the curator(s) involved in the application.
