Open Call for Applications: Artists Residencies in Eastern Europe 2016

Creative Peacebuilding.

The recent armed conflicts between the former Soviet states Armenia and Azerbaijan, Russia and Georgia, and Russia and Ukraine, fueled by the deep-rooted mutual stereotypes, distrust and governmental propaganda make a constructive dialogue between these nations increasingly difficult. Artistic expression, a universal tongue regardless of nation and creed, becomes one of the sole means to fostering sympathy and understanding between warring parties.

To bring forth the possibility of this conversation, Dekabristen e.V. is excited to announce a launch of a new Artist in Residence program “Creative peacebuilding”. The program will begin with an introductory seminar in Tbilisi, Georgia, September 9-11, 2016. After the seminar, the participants will spend up to 4 weeks in artist residencies organized with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office, Dekabristen e.V. and our partners in Baku, Yerevan, Tbilisi, Mariupol, Kharkov, Kiev, Voronezh and St.Petersburg, to further their artistic exploration into the themes of peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and collective healing.

The program is open to young visual artists and photographers between ages of 18 and 35 from the countries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine. For the 15 selected participants we will provide a stipend of 500€ and travel costs reimbursement up to 320€.

The application deadline is August 1, 6 pm (CET).
