Teatr Trans-Atlantyk, Warsaw, Poland

Information about institution:

Teatr Trans-Atlantyk is an international theatre company based in Warsaw, Poland founded by Paul Bargetto with Marta Król, Grzegorz Sierzputowski, Tomasz Sobczak, Krzysiek Polkowski, Agata Balcerzak and Helena Chorzelska. The company creates original works of devised theatre with its core ensemble and in collaboration with other dramatists, artists, and experts from other disciplines and fields. We are interested in research-driven documentary theatre, working with playwrights and dramaturges on original texts, reimagining existing texts, and creating public performance interventions. We work and perform in both Polish and English.

Short history:

Teatr Trans-Atlantyk was founded in 2014 by Paul Bargetto, an international theatre director and the artistic director of the undergroundzero festival.  In 2015, the members of the company created Fundacja Teatru Trans-Atlantyk to support the work of the company and to promote Polish culture internationally.

The most important projects:

ALBUM KARLA HÖCKERA is a documentary theatre project exploring the recently discovered (2006) album of photographs that shows the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944 entirely from the perspective of it owner: SS Officer Karl Höcker.  The piece is directed by Paul Bargetto with texts by Malgorzata Sikorska-Miszcuk performed by Marta Król, Grzegorz Sierzputowski, Tomasz Sobczak, Krzysiek Polkowski, and Helena Chorzelska with production design by Agnieszka Kaczynska.  It was developed at the Sopot Non-Fiction Festival in 2014 followed by an intensive research and rehearsal process at Klub Karuzela as part of Centrum Kultury Bemowo‘s residency program with the generous support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.  It premiered at the Instytut Teatralny in January 2015 and was produced by Agata Balcerzak. It has since been presented at the 2015 Malta Festival in Poznan, and the 2015 Sopot Non-Fiction Festival.

As a new company, we are seeking opportunities to tour our work, residencies to develop new projects, and individuals and insitiutions interested in collaborating with us on the creation of new work and workshops.

We are looking for partners to collaborate with in the EEPAP region, and for opportunities to present our work.
