40th Krakow Theatrical Reminiscences Festival, 12-17.10.2015, Poland

BMF

In 2015, The Cracow Theatrical Reminiscences festival will celebrate its 40th anniversary. This anniversary will be highlighted by the “subtitle” of the festival: 40 Off CRT, and the new logo. The festival will shed light on its roots through “retrospective” exhibitions and activities illustrating the stories of the most important performances of the past 40 years. The aim of the festival is to draw attention to the contemporary “avant-garde underground art ” by tracing the roots of theatre, i.e. ritual and ceremonies, actively involving the spectators. The festival will constitute a kind of confrontation with the culture of institutional theatre, combining visual arts with spoken word, movement and music.

This year’s edition invites the audience for a discussion on the condition and the place of art in the modern world. The various subjects of the programme and the methods of expression used will heavily act on the senses while inciting to adopt a definite stance: preparedness, care for a better world, the expression of rebellion against insufficiency, intolerance and fanaticism. Despite the many changes, it will remain an international festival of ideas, characterised by its dynamicity of events in terms of culture and identity. These values will be emphasised by performances in urban space, not necessarily dedicated to theatrical adaptation.

And all this directed by Ana Nowicka and Monika Kufel, founders of the Barakah Theatre.

The festival program is available online.
