Call for Applications Prague Quadrennial 2015

The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space is the largest scenography event in the world that explores a wide range of scenographic practices – from stage design and costume design to lighting design, sound design and new scenographic practices such as site-specific, applied scenography, urban performance, costume as performance, and much more.

Since 1967, every four years the Prague Quadrennial has followed the latest trends in performance design to be presented and established. The core of the event is expositions from over 50 countries in professional, student, and architecture parts of the event. However, the live events have become more crucial in the last ten years and make up a big part of the PQ– allowing for thousand of professionals, audiences, and students to meet in discussions, workshops, lectures, performances, and live exhibitions.

The Prague Quadrennial is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and realized by the Arts and Theatre Institute Prague. It traditionally takes place with the support of UNESCO, the European Union and the Prague City Council.

Individual expositions of countries and regions are organized by some of the most important cultural organizations in the world, including ministries of culture, art and theatre institutions, as well as organizations, international festivals, theatre companies and prestigious theatre and visual arts schools.

How to Take Part

Each participating country is responsible for the organizational, financial and artistic aspects of their own expositions in the PQ. Each appoints its own curator and/or organizing institution that sends the obligatory application for the individual sections to the Organizer of the PQ. The Curator and its team prepare the exposition for the main sections – Section of Countries and Regions and/or Student Section to which all entries will be accepted. The Curator also proposes projects to Commissioners of the Space, Objects, Makers and Spacelab projects who have the right to choose, accept or refuse entries.

The curator coordinates the representation of their country in the individual sections, and negotiates all matters concerning the country’s participation with the Prague Quadrennial. Artistic and organizational conditions of participation in the PQ are stated in the Statute and Concept.

Organizers please note that PQ ‘15 is inclusive and offers more projects for curators of individual countries’ representation as well as for independent artists to take part. Please follow the call and timeline carefully.

Deadline for applications for main sections is January 31st, 2014.
