"New Settings" support programme for theatrical productions with a strong visual arts component

BMF

Application deadline: September 30, 2016

New Settings supports theatrical productions with a strong (predominant) visual arts component. Innovative and ground-breaking new works may involve co-authors and new expressive forms, exploring new ways of relating to and engaging audiences. The Foundation will provide independent support for several projects each year: new works by established or emerging artists, scheduled for national or international tours.

For the seventh edition, works to be supported will be chosen from productions with a planned premiere between January and December 2017. The selected shows will receive support for their production and staging. In addition, each show will be offered performance dates in theatres or cultural centres across Paris, based on the company’s existing partnerships, and in reference to partnerships already established by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès.

The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès may offer some productions support to tour to New York as part of the city’s annual Crossing the Line festival, organised by the FIAF French Institute Alliance Française.

Your project must comply with the following selection criteria:

  • Projects must be theatrical productions with a strong (predominant) visual arts component.
  • To this end, the project may be the result of a shared creative process involving one or more performing artists and one or more visual artists collaborating for the first time. However, the Foundation may also choose to support non-collaborative works provided the author(s) guarantee to:
    • combine the visual and performing arts in their work
    • present a work of visual art in a theatrical context
    • present a theatrical work exploring a predominantly visual theme.
  • The visual artist may make use of digital technologies.
  • The work should incorporate new techniques and approaches in its creative process, and/or its relationship to its audience.
  • The work should be conceived for audiences of at least 100 people.
  • The work must be premiered between January and December 2017.
