Creating international alliances, mastering challenges

How can the conditions for artistic productions be shaped and improved – in particular in the independent scene and in the performing arts? For what topics, projects and future visions can alliances be identified and expanded? Where might there be friction points and communicative challenges?

Artists and cultural workers are often faced with such questions in their artistic and cultural work, especially when it comes to the fields of cultural management and cultural policy. Planning and implementing cultural productions shown in a variety of cultural contexts are associated with great challenges, but also with opportunities.

The International Forum on Cultural Management and Cultural Policy being held for the second time in Munich in 2016 offers a mutual platform for cultural stakeholders from many regions of the world and representatives of Munich cultural institutions from the independent scene to discuss these questions and approaches to solutions.
This ten-day intensive programme offered by the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with the Cultural Department of the City of Munich will be held in autumn 2016. Up to 15 representatives from the worldwide cultural scene can take part in it.

The Forum includes thematic workshops at cultural institutions in Munich from the independent scene with focus on performing arts, short presentations, visits to thematically relevant events and individual project coaching. The programme will be designed to take participants’ projects and prioritized topics submitted together with their applications into account as well as questions and topics from Munich’s cultural institutions. Existing contacts with cultural institutions in Germany would be advantageous.

The programme aims to combine practice-oriented training of cultural sector stakeholders, international networking and intensification of alliances.

Requirements for participation:

  • Very good command of English
  • At least five years of professional experience in the cultural sector,
    preferably in the independent scene
