Workshop and audition for contact improvisation dancers with Colleen Thomas-Young (Lublin, Poland)

The Institute of Music and Dance, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, East European Performing Arts Platform and the Lublin Dance Theatre invite for coaching sessions by Colleen Thomas-Young for professional dancers, that will take place on November 14-16, 2017, in Lublin, Poland.

 

Time: 14-16 November 2017 (Tuesday-Thursday), 10:00-16:00

Place: Centre for Culture in Lublin, Poland, Peowiaków 12.

 

Conditions for participation

The project is aimed at dancers with experience in contact improvisation.

According to the artist’s intentions:

We need curious movers – Intermediate to advanced dancers with experience in contact improvisation. Talent in other art forms are a plus.”

The workshops will take place during the 21st International Dance Theatre Festival in Lublin, Poland, and will include an audition for a new, Polish-American project by the artist. It is planned to premiere in Poland in November 2018, during the International Dance Theatre Festival, and the world premiere will take place in spring 2019 in New York. In order to take part in the project audition, a dancer has to participate in the three day workshop in November 2017. 10 people will be selected for the project.

 

The organizers provide the workshop participants with accommodation in twin rooms in the Centre for Culture in Lublin, as well as with tickets for the performances during the 21st International Dance Theatre Festival that take place on November 14-16. The organizers do not cover travel and food costs.

 

Participation in the workshops is free of charge.

About the artist:

Colleen Thomas-Young – is a New York based choreographer, her works have been presented on many international scenes, e.g. in Hong Kong, Estonia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil and Russia. In New York, she works with prestigious dance centres (Danspace Project, DTW, New York Live Arts, The Miller Theater, Danny K. Playhouse, The Harkness Center at the 92nd Street Y, The Kumble Arts Center). As a dancer, she works with renowned contemporary choreographers such as Nina Wiener Dance Company, Donald Byrd/The Group, Bebe Miller Dance Company, and Bill T.  Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company.  Sice 2003 she has led her own company—ColleenThomasDance—as well as co-directed and created choreography for Bill Young/Colleen Thomas & Co. She is also the curator for an important, contemporary New York project that is part of the LIT (loft into theatre)series at 100 Grand, which supports innovative and experimental works by both young and established artists. She also teaches dance at the prestigious Barnard College of Columbia University.
