K.A.I.R. residency in Wrocław: Open call for artists connected to Košice

K.A.I.R. Košice Artist in Residence together with AIR Wro as part of the Culture Zone Wrocław are announcing a call for a residency in Wrocław, Poland, addressed to performers, dancers, choreographers and curators working in the field of contemporary dance and performance.

AIR WRO

AIR Wro is a programme of residencies, study visits and international collaboration, which continues its work after the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 as part of the Culture Zone Wrocław. Its objective is to support and promote the activities of creators representing various fields of culture and art, who are interested in collaboration with representatives of local circles and communities, and willing to establish international cultural relations.

AIR Wro supports artists, curators, researchers, journalists, activists, animators and managers, who carry out artistic, cultural and social projects drawing upon the traditions of urban and grassroots movements, dedicated to current issues and problems, such as public space, urban greenery, environmental protection and ecology or referring to civic education, social issues and cultural policies. The aim of AIR Wro is to promote mediation and facilitate the search for good practices and solutions for modern cities.

In 2018 AIR Wro also dedicates some of its activities to a development of the local dance circles, interested in new choreography and performance as the freshest disciplines of contemporary art. Through the work and exchange of experiences in these fields, AIR Wro wishes to support exploration of a new language for artistic expression and the creation of tools which could currently influence a process of social change.

RESIDENCY

The main aim of the residency is to give the representative of contemporary dance and performance circles in Slovakia an opportunity to develop an individual practice, but also to share experiences through a workshop, which she or he will be asked to conduct. The residency may be a chance to carry out a new project or to continue work on one already running, by giving it a different perspective. However, the activities planned within its framework should include a participation of professionals or non-professionals, depending on the resident’s idea. The call for the workshop will be coordinated by AIR Wro. The residency, including the workshop’s outcome, should finish with a performance open for public.

We provide:

• 3-4 weeks of a residency in Wrocław, Poland in September 2018
• accommodation
• rehearsal space
•  a fee of EUR 1000
• coverage of travel costs up to EUR 300
• coverage of material costs up to EUR 450

APPLICATION

The application consists of a CV, portfolio and covering letter (all in PDF), which presents the fields of interests and activities of the candidate, indicates directions of individual practice’s development as well as describes the ideas and plans regarding the residency, implementation of a new project or continuation of one already running, organisation of a workshop. All documents must be prepared in English.
