Screen.Dance is a programme of events and awards in Scotland, UK, dedicated to celebrating the art and creativity of imaginative dance on screen. Screen.Dance sits within the Perth Dance Festival 2019 with public screenings, a seminar of presentations and live events.

Screendance is an expanding genre of artist's moving image created by combining choreographic intention and compositional form, with the language of cinema. The festival is looking for short works that fit this description for screening in three categories - 1. UK work 2. International work and 3. Student work - that will go forward to be judged in competition. There is a cash award and the opportunity to be part of the permanent public collection at Threshold Artspace – Perth's one of a kind museum of contemporary art.

This year we also have a symposium opportunity for artists wishing to attend the festival and make a presentation about their work. Films will be shown during a two day public symposium of 4 presentation sessions to share the artists' perspectives and the current state of the art in screendance. Each presentation will be limited to 15 minutes and be facilitated. Each session will be followed by audience questions. The presentations will be documented and collated to become part of a digital publication. Submissions in this category will not be part of the competition. In order for your proposal to be accepted you must commit to present your work in person.

Rules & Terms

The festival accepts short film submissions of no longer than 15 minutes made in the last 5 years. The works should conform to the genre of screendance also known as videodance or dance film. The festival does not accept documentation of live performance or dance documentary. Music videos maybe considered if the balance between dance and music is even. By submitting your work you acknowledge you own all intellectual property rights and permissions for the work.

All works should be submitted through FilmFreeway .
Incomplete applications may invalidate submissions.

There is an early submission/ administration fee of $15 (US Dollars) with separate category discounts for students with valid ID proof. Later submissions will be accepted at extra cost.

All films accepted for screening will be considered for an acquisition award - one in each of the three categories - as part of the Horsecross Arts collection of contemporary art at Threshold artspace, Perth Concert Hall in a non-exclusive arrangement.

The judges decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into regarding judging decisions.
