On the 22nd October 2011 in Lublin’s City Hall, mayor Krzysztof Żuk and Paweł Potoroczyn, director of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, signed the agreement stating their cooperation with the EEPAP project. The agreement makes Lublin an official project partner and will house EEPAP’s headquarters from January 2012.

Artists, curators, critics, cultural managers, and producers of the eighteen member countries met in Krakow on 5th – 6 th October 2011 at the first assembly of the East European Platform for Performing Arts.

The main goal of the project is to support development of theaters and dance scenes in countries of Central and Eastern Europe, with special focus on the Eastern Partnership. -  The platform’s program is a product of many years travelling and meeting, and has been created in touch with independent theater and dance artists, theorists and critics of the countries included in EEPAP - said Marta Keil, curator and author of the project.

Studies commissioned by us have showed clearly that the European system of culture does not exist outside of the Schengen area, to a certain extent. Moreover, we do not know each other. That there have been an increasing number of international festivals for the last few years  does not equate intensified cooperation – added Marta Keil.

EEPAP implements the basic ideas of the Eastern Partnership mission, acting in the field of performing arts. The network’s website is up and running and functions as a place where creators and institutions can present themselves. The next year will see the realization of an educational project for curators and producers, as well as a residential program for artists.

The East European Platform of Performing Arts is organized within the I, CULTURE - Cultural Program for the Foreign Polish Presidency of the EU and is coordinated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. However, this project clearly plans to outlive the Polish Presidency and is now in its developing stages. Projects covering the next two years have already been planned.
