Our viewers and theatre enthusiast will surely be glad to find out that the tickets for all Festival events are now available at the Box Office of the Centre for Culture.

The artists who will present their works during this year’s edition are uncompromising experimenters who constantly search for new solutions, are courageous in making choices, implementing them in a masterly matter. Out of respect to the public, which they treat as equals, they have rejected the traditional repertory theater to reform it from within. There are no unconscious choices of random solutions. The program of the festival sees the meeting of masters and their students.

About the Festival

International Festival "Theatre Confrontaions" was born on the 17th of January 1966, when six members of Lublin theatre circles formed a Programme Council of the festival. These were: the director of Teatr Provisorium – Janusz Opryńskidirector of Scena Plastyczna KUL – Leszek Mądzik, director of Centre for Theatre Practices – Włodzimierz Staniewski, director of Brama Grodzka Centre – Tomasz Pietrasiewicz, director of Juliusz Osterwa’s Theatre in Lublin – Cezary Karpiński and Aleksander Szpecht – director of the Centre for Culture in Lublin. Nine months later the first edition of the International Festival "Theatre Confrontations" took place.

The action was inspired by a rich tradition of theatre festivals in Lublin. The city held a popular festival Lublin Theatre Spring in the 60′s and 70′s of the 20th century and then extremely thriving Confrontations of Young Theatre – a review of alternative theatres associated with the student community centred around Chatka Żaka. The latter was a direct inspiration for the founders of "Theatre Confrontations".

During the first ten years of the Festival, artists created the Programme Council led by the Artistic Commissioner serving an annual term. Due to this, the festival gained a distinctive artistic profile in the years that followed. Currently, the structure of the Festival evolves with the changing artistic environment and it is the Artistic Director and the circle of advisers who are responsible for the programme. The post is now held by Janusz Opryński and the current form of the Festival is his composition.
