“History of Art. Music. Theater and Film” - first edition of Postgraduate Studies at the Institute of Art in Warsaw, Poland

In the academic year 2016/2017 the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IS PAN) is launching a postgraduate studies program entitled “History of Art. Music. Theater and Film”. Participants will be able to enroll in one of  three specializations:

 

  • Art History and Contemporary Visual Culture
  • History of Music, with elements of contemporary music culture
  • Theatre and Drama Studies, with elements of film

 

These programs are intended for all who are interested in artistic culture and who hold at least a diploma degree (B.A. or equivalent). They are especially recommended for teachers and employees of cultural institutions wishing to improve their qualifications, as well as art lovers. All activities will be arranged as weekend sessions, starting in October 2016.

 

Lectures, seminars and classes will be conducted by eminent experts in the field of art history, musicology, theater and film studies, recruited from among the academic faculty of the Institute of Art, as well as other research and educational institutions. The organizers plan meetings with theatre artists, experts on visual arts and music, as well as visits to exhibitions in museums and galleries, performances of opera, theatre and concerts. The Head of Studies is prof. Joanna M. Sosnowska, a faculty member at IS PAN, which for nine years led the Collegium Civitas Master's degree program in art history.

 

The Institute of Art is an interdisciplinary research unit of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Its tasks include research and documentation of Polish art and artistic culture in the field of visual arts, architecture, music, theater and film, with account taken of the European as well as global context. The Institute collaborates with national and foreign institutions. It has a rich collection of books,  photographs and manuscripts, theatrical archives, contemporary art and recordings of folk music. In 2014 the Institute was awarded by the Minister of Science and Higher Education the prestigious category “A+”, given to leading scientific institutions in Poland.

 

The Institute of Art has excellent office and building facilities. It is located in the center of Warsaw, on edge of the Old Town, with easy access from every area of the city.
