BECC- Bridge between Culture Centres

BECC is a Europe-wide staff exchange programme. It aims at enabling locally based cultural workers from cultural centres to go abroad for a learning experience with a cultural centre in another country: to tackle current concerns & issues, to exchange good practices, acquire new skills and knowledge and to build long-term partnerships.

Aims:

  • To stimulate innovation and experiment in contemporary work at cultural centres, dealing with current concerns & issues, identified by the cultural centre.
  • For example: new models for participation based artistic & cultural activities, social innovation, ecology and cultural centres, working in remote areas, mixing contemporary culture & tradition, support for grassroots-activities, dealing with local politics, tackling diversity, raising cultural competences of local communities,...
  • To promote international mobility for local staff members.
  • To enhance sensibility and awareness for different cultures and working methods.
  • To exchange new knowledge and different experiences at international level about current needs.
  • To reflect one's own work, methods, projects, as result of the possibility to compare it.
  • To introduce new ideas, knowledge and collaboration beyond national borders into the daily work upon return.
  • To support a lasting partnership and cooperation between local cultural centres from different countries.
  • To facilitate international solidarity in the field of using arts & culture as a tool for empowerment.

Key information:
The regular stay covers a period of minimum 10 days, no maximum indicated. The programme for the learning experience is developed in cooperation between the sending, the hosting organisation and the staff member actually doing the exchange.
The programme is focused on a clear needs assessment and gives the opportunity to learn about the chosen subject in action: visits to organisations, meeting stakeholders, taking part in local activities, meeting participants, taking part in evaluations, sharing of past experiments.
The hosting organisation facilitates the learning process by taking care of the language challenge, by providing a local coach, by organising the programme and by providing a qualitative learning experience.

The sending organisation facilitates the learning process by organising a good needs assessment, quality cooperation with the hosting organisation and by well preparing the participant.
Sending means also hosting, the reciprocity is essential but not necessary for the same aims. The organisation that has hosted, can send another kind of staff member for another kind of learning process.

If you don't have a partnership organization, call the ENCC office for assistance.
