Call for participants in the Summer Scriptwriting Camp “House for Disobedients,” 23 July – 5 August 2016, Gabrovtsi, Bulgaria

BMF

Application deadline: 1 May 2016

This year’s Summer Scriptwriting Camp will be held in the village of Gabrovtsi, which will host playwrights and scriptwriters, working in the field of various arts: theatre, cinema, dance, performance installation, audio theatre and audio installation. The program will consist of four lectures and three workshops, led by renowned and innovative practicing lecturers from France, Germany and the Balkans.

The Idea

The Scriptwriting Summer Camp is meant for writers – professionals, students and non-professionals, engaged in writing, working in the field of contemporary scriptwriting for various arts and journalism. The main goal of the camp is to develop a creative environment, where different viewpoints on scriptwriting for contemporary arts may cross. It will also provide practice in a laboratory environment, which will enrich the participants’ experience and will help for their professional and creative growth. New practices and forms in the sphere of theatre, cinema, dance, performance installation, audio theatre and audio installation will be presented. Special stress will be put on new working models of pre-production and research.

The working environment of the Summer Scriptwriting Camp will be the building of the art residence DUPPINI in the village of Gabrovstsi – former boarding school for young delinquents. The practical work, taking place in the workshops, will be inspired by documentary materials to be found at the boarding school, as well as the various land art installations, situated in the area as well as inside the building. The purpose is for each participant to feel and understand how the very same material can be interpreted for different stage and audiovisual arts.

The Place

The village of Gabrovtsi is situated in the picturesque Balkan area, 15 km away from the city of Veliko Tarnovo. The participants will be accommodated at the beautiful Monastery of Kilifarevo (4 km), renowned for its atmosphere. There is a possibility for accommodation in the art residence itself, as well as camping in the yard for those who might be interested. The Enyovitsa river flows five minutes away from the residence, having magnificent pools, where the participants can easily cool off from the summer sun.

The Program

Scriptwriting Summer Camp will be international – all lectures and workshops will be held in English. The official opening of the camp will take place on 23 July in Sofia. The first lecture from the programme will also take place in Sofia, on 24 July – the lecturer will be the renowned Macedonian playwright Goran Stefanovski. After the lecture all participants will depart for the village of Gabrovtsi where the main events of the academy will take place. The closing ceremony, which will showcase the results from the camp and will be accompanied by a concert, will be held on 05 August. The results from the workshops will be presented afterwards in Sofia, Paris and Berlin.
