Open Call: UNIT MOTIVES International solo choreography and contemporary music festival (Greece)

BMF

Deadline: 25 November 2019

Unit Motives #4: Berio - March 28-29, 2020, Thessaloniki, Greece
Open call for applications is open! Submission deadline: November 25

Die Wolke art group calls, for a fourth consecutive year, choreographers and dancers to its Unit Motives initiative for the creation of solo contemporary dance works on musical works by great 20th century composers. This year, the event aims to explore the different kinetic and choreographic approaches to the interpretation of works by Luciano Berio.

Luciano Berio (1925, 2003) was an Italian composer, noted for his experimental work as well as his pioneering contributions in electronic music. His success as theorist, conductor, composer, and teacher, placed him among the leading representatives of the musical avant-garde. His style is notable for combining lyric and expressive musical qualities with the most advanced techniques of electronic and aleatory music, and he is also known as the co-founder of the Studio di Fonologia Musicale at Milan Radio.

Applicants will be called to participate with a short solo piece of their own choreography and performance, with a duration of 5-12 minutes, under the choreographic direction of Drosia Triantaki. The results will be presented at Vitruvian Thing on March 28 and 29. Works should be adaptable to available space and their stage and lighting requirements should be simple and flexible. The individual works will be arranged and merged into a single performance that will explore contemporary and historical approaches to the work and philosophy of the composer.

The programme cannot cover travel expenses, but can provide invitation letters for the applicants to use with culture authorities, embassies, or other sponsors. Accommodation can be provided for a limited number of participants.

Application deadline: November 25
Cost of participation: free
Rehearsals:: March 25-27
Performance: Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29, 20:00 and 22:00
Choreographic direction: Drosia Triantaki
