Description
Information about institution:

Produced over a month each spring, “ARé” performing arts festival ( http://www.arepaf.am ) features performance art with crossovers of some kind or another. Especially we play on the porosity of the boundary between performing arts and visual arts, experiment with original and unusual forms.

As the concept of “genre” becomes more unreliable and less interesting to creators, we expect more artists to nestle themselves in between different forms — not as an act of rebellion or critique, but simply because that’s the way we need to be confronted by art in the world today. These new forms expand the horizons of artists and audiences with work that is visionary, genre-bending, multi-disciplined, startling and original.

The festival showcases acclaimed international and local artists and mixes them together with an alchemy that inspires audiences, rejuvenates artists. “ARé” is a broker of international partnerships, a meeting place for creative minds, a showcase of Armenia’s best and an incubator of brilliant new work.

Short history:

“ARé ” performing arts festival has been established in 2015 in Yerevan, Armenia. It is an annual fest and thus we have implemented four editions. Every year we suggest a theme/concept and invite artists who work within the suggested frame.

The most important projects:

2015 - GAZING THROUGH MEMORY

2016 - DADA 100+

2017 - PERFORMING NARRATIVE

2018 - SELFIE

Objectives:

Every year we implement rather different projects and events. Each of them gains the attention of a special group of audience. Starting from the fourth edition of the festival - SELFIE - we implemented a special program within the general frame of the fest featuring artists of a certain country. This year it was "Swiss Focus". The idea is going further with this special program involving a new country every year.

International cooperations:

We have started international cooperation since the first edition. We have invited international artists from UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Australia, Germany, Israel, Russia. Armenian artists have taken part in all the editions.

The most important awards:

“ARé ” performing arts festival is a member of IITM. It has been proposed to stage an edition also in Israel.

Plans:

The theme for the 2019 edition has been chosen. It will bear the title "FAILURE" - failure as a philosophical/artistic/real issue.

Publications:

We print program leaflets and catalogues for every edition.
