YUĞ Theatre is the only avantgarde theatre in Azerbaijan. It acts a meeting place and arena for discussion for philosophers, artists, scientists, psychologists, and other intellectuals.
Initially, the theatre was as a training studio created by Vagif Ibrahimoglu and Hasanaga Turabov in 1989, which participated in a number of international festivals, such as the International Youth Festival in Istanbul (Turkey, 1991) and the FAJR festival (Iran, 1992).
In 1992 the theatre gained state status and became the YUG State Theatre. The current leader of the theatre is Tarlan Rasulov.
YUĞ Theatre has developed its own theory: psychosophy, and idea formed by Vagif Ibrahimoglu – Chief Director of the theatre.
The theatre has produced more than 90 performances.
YUĞ Theatre won the Grand-Prix in 1995 on the experimental theatre festival and the prize for Best Actor in 1997 at the TUGANLIK International theatre festival (Ufa, Russia).
