Viktar Piatrou - Artist, performer, curator of the International Performance Art Festival “Navinki”

Short biography: 

Viktar Piatrou works in the Association for Contemporary Art.

He was born in 1957 in Minsk, Belarus. He studied in the Academy of Arts in Minsk 1979-1984. His major project has been the annual international performance festival Navinki in Minsk. It started in 1999. For the first time after the fall of the iron curtain, the Belarusian audience could view examples of independent art.

During the last 12 years over 500 performances have been presented, and over 300 foreign artists have participated. 40 new artists have appeared on performance scene in Belarus. The festival gives possibilities for Belarusian artists to participate in the international art scene.

In 2001 , the Performance art festival Navinki got a significant international recognition when it was included into a world wide association of performance art organizers http://iapao.net. To this date, Navinki is the only regular annual independent international art festival in Belarus.
